How Do I Use This?
While this application gives you a general idea of how you and another person rate in 3 different categories, we provide you with a few tips on how to better understand its use.
These ratings measure compatibility in several ways. What they cannot measure is how fulfilling a friendship/relationship can be since that is something which grows based on the efforts of the two people involved. Rating high in all 3 categories with someone does not necessarily mean the friendship/relationship is perfect. While it does show excellent compatibility, the tendency with this rating can be to take each other for granted and to avoid working issues out.
Conversely, if you rate low in all 3 categories with another person, it does not necessarily doom the friendship/relationship. However, if you have this rating with someone, and you both recognize a certain connection, it likely will require a lot of work by each of you to make a go of it together. It is possible, therefore, for a friendship/relationship with a low rating to prove very satisfying over time because of the mutual effort dedicated to it.
From our experience, the friendships/relationships that will most likely thrive are those where the ratings have a high in one - or maybe two - categories or have a medium rating in two or three categories. This assures some good to excellent compatibility that makes it easier to work on developing the category(s) that are low to medium. These combinations often produce the most satisfying friendship/relationship.
For a friendship - whether it is peer-to-peer, parent to child, worker to employer, etc. - or a desired long-term relationship, it helps to have the communication category medium to high. For a love relationship that is primarily about sex, it is preferable to have the strength category high. One that rates high in the long-term category but low in the other two may mean an attachment that can become a burden if the two of you don't try to develop the other two categories. These are some examples on how to assess the ratings.
